Frequently Asked Questions

IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING
- 01Yes, we all currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and are in network providers. We are also Community Care providers with the VA. In order to meet with us through the VA, you must request a referral to be sent to us from a provider at the VA. Couples counseling with Meagan or Clay is private pay. These sessions are relationship therapy and not individual therapy with two people in the room. It does not label one of you as the problem, it is meant to change the system. Therefore, it is not possible to bill insurance. The insurance companies look for medical necessity and a billable mental health disorder for one person.
- 02Session payments are accepted via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diner‘s Club, JCB, HSA and FSA. If you wish to seek reimbursement from an insurance provider using your out-of-network benefits, we can provide you with a detailed receipt, called a superbill, after you’ve paid for your session. The superbill goes to your insurance company, and they may offer you partial reimbursement for your therapy session. Check what out-of-network benefits your insurance plan covers.
- 03You can start by filling out our contact form at the bottom of our home page that reads, "Click here to connect with us and get scheduled". Once you fill out that form, we will reach out to you and either answer questions or get you scheduled. You can also text our work line that you are interested in starting therapy: 256-676-3507 and let us know who you would like to work with if you have a preference.
- 04During our first few sessions we’ll discuss your history, current situation and concerns, and goals for what you hope to accomplish in therapy. This initial period allows us to get to know one another and explore how best to serve your needs. In our sessions, you’ll have an opportunity to develop and practice new coping skills, vent about your struggles, gain perspective and new insights, learn to challenge your thoughts, and receive feedback in a non-judgmental space. We’ll also explore resources and helpful tools to practice between our sessions.
- 05We are in network providers for Blue Cross Blue Shield. We will reach out to Blue Cross after the consultation, if you wish to schedule appointments with us. We will find out what your mental health coverage policy is and discuss it with you. Typically there is a copayment (but sometimes not depending on your policy) that will be collected at the time of service. You will be able to pay copayments through your online portal and then we will bill Blue Cross for the rest of the session fee.

- 11The first session is an introduction to the process along with conducting your couples interview. You will then complete a comprehensive assessment online through Gottman Connect. This Gottman Assessment will develop an in-depth analysis of your relationship health using Gottman's nine key principles so you can understand areas where you and your partner excel and where you need improvement. Then we will conduct individual interviews with each partner to learn how your history plays a part in your relationship dynamics. Then we will come back together after this assessment phase and begin building Gottman skills depending on the needs of the couples as indicated in the Gottman assessment.
- 12Each couple is unique but you can expect at least 8-12 sessions in order to get to the root of what has caused emotional disengagement while learning skills to use in real life that repair any ruptures.
