Do I need a formal diagnosis to attend?

Accepted Answer

Yes.

This group is specifically for women who have been formally diagnosed by a medical provider (MD, DO, NP, or PA) with:

• Genito-Pelvic Pain/Penetration Disorder (GPPPD)
 • Vaginismus
 • Dyspareunia
 • Or a related medically evaluated pelvic pain condition
This group is not designed for individuals who are self-diagnosing or who have not yet been medically evaluated.

If you are unsure about your diagnosis, we encourage you to consult with your OB-GYN or primary care provider before registering.

Question 2

Will this group provide medical treatment or diagnosis?

Accepted Answer

No.

This is a psychoeducational and emotional support group led by a licensed therapist. It does not provide medical treatment, diagnosis, or replace ongoing medical care.

Participants should already be under the care of or previously evaluated by a physician.

Question 3

Is this group appropriate for trauma processing?

Accepted Answer

This group is not a trauma-processing group.

While emotional themes may arise, the focus is on education, coping tools, and shared support.

If you are currently in acute trauma distress, individual therapy may be more appropriate.

Who is this group NOT for?

Accepted Answer

This group may not be a good fit if:

• You have not received a medical diagnosis
 • You are seeking medical evaluation
 • You are in immediate crisis
 • You are looking for explicit sexual instruction
 • You are not comfortable in a women-only setting
We want to ensure the safety and cohesion of the group.

How is confidentiality handled?

Confidentiality is foundational.

• Group members agree not to share personal information discussed in group.
 • Names, stories, and identifying details must remain private.
 • The facilitator will review confidentiality guidelines at the start of the group.
While we cannot legally guarantee that all participants will maintain confidentiality, we set clear expectations to create the safest possible environment.

We are happy to have a brief screening conversation to ensure the group is the right fit.

Question 7

What is the flow of the group meeting?

Accepted Answer

Each group session will start with a brief check-in, followed by psychoeducation or skill building activities and an opportunity for group discussion. The group will conclude by reflecting on the presented topics.

Time for fellowship with other group members will follow the meeting to allow for additional opportunities for connection and support.

How often is the group and where is it located?

The support group meets monthly.

We are conveniently located right off 565 in Historic Five Points, Huntsville in a 1900 home. Parking is available on the street outside our office.
